Do I have to be a CST to work with a surveying firm?

No, this program has been developed as a national measure to best define the level of experience one has in the field. It is certainly not a requirement but a way to establish yourself in the surveying community and a way to advance your career and your salary.

Who pays the expenses?

You are responsible for the costs, which include an application fee ($30-$50, free for students) and an exam fee ($110-$150). Often employers will offer reimbursement or incentives for taking the exam.

How much experience do I need before I sit for the exams?

There are four levels of exam certification and with each level there is a specific requirement for the number of years of experience.
